Minas Gerais is home to some of the world's largest diamonds that have ever been recorded. More than 50 large diamonds weighing between 69 and 727 carats have been recovered in the region. Every year several exceptionally fancy stones worth millions ($US) each are recovered. Diamonds from this region typically yield 90% gem quality and 10% industrial.
